Jan H Lim (b. 1986, Singapore) studied architecture from 2005-2011 and took up weaving in 2013. She first learnt to weave under Saori (freestyle) weavers Kaz Madigan and Kenzo Jo, before studying traditional approaches at the Kawashima Textile School in Kyoto. Curious about materiality, colour and construction, Jan often begins with dyeing the fibre by hand, using various kasuri (Japanese technique for ikat, or resist-dyeing) methods, before weaving, unweaving, knotting, twisting and other means of tactile play. At present Jan is pursuing doctoral research in Leuven, Belgium, while being mom to a one-year-old.
